Meet Rob Ross – Brisbane Nomads Golf club captain for 2023.

Born in Johannesburg, Rob has been a Nomad since 2014 when work colleague and Nomads member Ian Horsley invited him to join the club.

“Growing up in Johannesburg I had the freedom to do what I wanted – as long as I got home by the time the streetlights came on,’’ he said.

A freight broker with Tuco Freight Management, Rob started playing golf in 1996 after blowing his knee out playing his other sporting love soccer.

An avid Tottenham Hotspur fan, Rob’s greatest golfing claim to fame is that he had two holes in one in the space of three weeks back in 2005.

“I’ve been close a few times since then, but sadly no slam dunks,’’ he said.

“After many years of trying to improve my golf the best my handicap has ever been is 8, but that seems like a lifetime ago.’’

Rob is looking forward to a busy, and successful, year at the helm of Brisbane Nomads Golf.

“I’m incredibly proud to firstly be a Nomad,’’ he said.

“And secondly being captain of this organisation is easily one of the greatest things I have ever been part of in my life as not only do I get to play (really bad) golf but I do that whilst raising money for various charities.

“As captain in 2023 I am looking to give back to the Club through my time and effort, and in doing so continue to provide our members with the biggest and best club in Australia.’’
